Hidden in the undulating hills of Wandin, Victoria is one of the first homesteads, Mont De Lancey, settled by the Sebire family. Along with the Rougets and Gaudions, the Sebires were one of the original French settlers in the Yarra Valley.
The magnificent gardens of the property history abounds with an original Slab Kitchen, Machinery Shed and Blacksmiths Workshop. The gardens, St Mary's Chapel and gazebo or under the 100 year old Peppercorn tree near the newly established Rose Garden also provide a beautiful setting for Weddings which can be fully catered by Les Chésselles.
Now a new French connection has arrived at Mont De Lancey in the form of a unique French style café... 'Les Chésselles'.
Not only will you enjoy French food but also French wines and cheeses, as well of course alongside the best wines of the Yarra Valley. As part of the experience, Gourmet produce are also available.
Why not indulge yourself with a French style breakfast and a complimentary glass of bubbly Saturdays and Sundays 9.30 to 12.30, then take a stroll through the Rose Garden and visit the Rose Nursery
In 1491 a Swiss land owner sold a parcel of land just outside the French border to a farmer called Chesselles. A small village developed around the allotment and soon the town of Chesselles evolved into a hub of activity for trade. Over the ensuing decades the descendants of Chesselles migrated through Europe and across the Channel into England where Chesselles was anglicised to Chessell. Thus are the routes of the owner of Les Chésselles, Christine.
Christine is a regular visitor to this region of France where she has undertaken studies in French cooking. Chris's most recent expedition to France in August and September 2010 has laid the foundation for her next publication on 'Simple Stress Free Travel', a collection of travel, accommodation, places to visit, trains, costings, new menus, cooking tips along with a very informative DVD.
The book is targeted at people who are quite anxious about travelling on their own throughout Europe. Email dine@chesselles.com.au for more information.
